pretzel crusted chicken tenders with curry ketchup
I’m just going to throw this out there, these were the best chicken tenders I have had in my life.
And they came out of my kitchen.
This Pretzel Crusted Chicken Tenders with Curry Ketchup recipe originates from Giada, did you know she has told people she doesn’t really eat the food she makes, she just has one or two bites maximum (that’s how she stays so skinny). I don’t know how she does it though.
These tenders are irresistible and paired with the perfect curry ketchup- curry powder & ketchup. The combination of spice and sweetness in the tomato ketchup compliment the crunchy saltiness of the pretzel pieces.
I first saw this on the Food Network and did a little research to find the exact recipe. It was so worth it because pretzels and chicken are a match made in heaven.
I had AU fry these golden brown (he is my little fryer man), the recipe was so easy to follow and to make.
The chicken is “battered” in flour, egg, and then pretzel crumbs that I hammered out.
The breading is not really breading, it is very light and airy and gives the chicken the perfect crunch. I hate ordering fried foods in restaurants and being totally disgusted by the amount of batter on the chicken itself. In most cases the batter is greater than the chicken! It honestly makes me feel sick. I end up ripping the breading off and only eating half of it.
This chicken is nothing like that, this chicken is my new favorite thing.
As you can see you do not need an actual fryer for this (although we do have one), you just need a pan and some oil! I used vegetable oil but the recipe calls for either veggie oil or grapeseed oil to be healthier.
The frying is very light and requires a small amount of oil. it is definitely way healthier than ordering these in a restaurant.
I refer to this as light frying.
Notes
Use a rolling pin or heavy object to crush pretzels in a large ziploc bag.

Ingredients
CHICKEN TENDERS
- 4 chicken breasts
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 1/2 cups ground pretzels
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
CURRY KETCHUP
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
Instructions
CHICKEN TENDERS
- Place flour in a shallow bowl. Place 2 beaten eggs in another shallow bowl. Place the ground pretzels in a third bowl.
- Cut each chicken breast into 3 even long strips. To bread: dip the chicken strips into the flour first, then the eggs, and then lastly the pretzels. Press the pretzels into the chicken strips to make sure they stick. Repeat with all the chicken strips.
- Heat 1/4 cup oil in a large pan. In two batches place chicken tenders into the hot oil and heat chicken tenders 3minutes each side. Repeat the process with all chicken tenders.
CURRY KETCHUP
- Mix ketchup and curry powder until well combined.
- Serve with chicken tenders.
I wish I could grab a tender out of that picture and finish those off. The crunch from the lightly fried pretzels is literally irresistible. But make sure you dunk it in the curry ketchup first.
These two were made for each other.
