PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO

We are back in the land of the free from Playa Del Carmen, Mexico!

Oh and hey it’s me again! I know you’ve missed me because
I have missed all of you and this whole blogging LIFE.

I have taken a few weeks (um months) off of the blogging train and food photography thing. As some of you may know I was a little busy GETTING MARRIED!! Needless to say the time I took off was wonderful and definitely needed. My mom and I made all the decor and signage for our wedding (aside from the floral centerpieces) and not to mention I planned the whole thing so the time off was a definite plus in my life and I loved planning/organizing our entire wedding.

It was magical, perfect, and everything I ever wanted. The day was just incredible and I can’t wait to share those moments with you when we get our photographs.

But for now… Here’s a little bit about our
trip in paradise or PARADISUS (the hotel we stayed in):

what we ate & drank in MEXICO.

AU (weird cause now I am AU in real life as well but in blog land I’m just ALF or Ambs Loves Food, good thing that won’t get confusing) and I took a full week to enjoy Mexico and have a wonderful REAL vacation together.

We had plenty of relaxing times at the gorgeous beach & pool along with two adventure days and of course a couples massage, it was our honeymoon.
We went all inclusive for our honeymoon so the food
and drinks were awesome and they were plentiful.

One of my absolute favorite drinks was the Lemon Drop Martini.
It’s dipped in fine sugar and the drink is perfectly sour with a sweet punch.
I kind of treated this like a dessert it was so scrumptious and I am all for a drink with sugar on the rim that I can eat while drinking.
AU’s drink of choice this night was a Whisky Sour.
It was “good & sour”- words straight out of his mouth.

I can’t handle the whisky so I can’t speak for his drink.

One of the best things we ate were Mexican Churros.
We had to wait five minutes while they gathered ingredients and they were made fresh right in front of our eyes in the city of Valladolid. One had chocolate sauce and one had caramel sauce. They were so hot they burned our mouths (totally our fault) but they were the crispiest pastry churros and I love a real good churro.

One night we decided to do cool shots instead of
drinks and these Snake Bites fell into our mouths, literally.
It’s a Blue Hawaiian on top and Baileys Cream on the bottom.
I couldn’t go a whole week without a Baileys shot and since they couldn’t make me a buttery nipple these were next best. The Blue Hawaiian is a fruity coconut frozen drink and it made the best concoction with the cool creamy baileys.

Ribeye Steak was what I was craving one night.
This one was HUGE and was served with a breaded mashed potato ball and some yummy spinach. AU and I got the same thing to eat, twins!

The best of the best was Margaritas on the rocks and frozen Daiquiris.
We had these two on rotation, I’ll never say no to a marg.
AU and I frequently ordered these at the pool, beach, our rooms, wherever.

It rocked.

My favorite meal, Filet on rice & beans with fried plantains.

Literally delish, plenty of flavor and the fried plantain was a wonderful sweet, slightly crunchy textural addition. This was at the Latin restaurant, Vento.
I loved the vibe, the cool sized plates, the interesting food, and the beautiful decor and architecture in each restaurant.
Each new restaurant was a whole new experience.

I asked for three days for someone to make me a Coco Loco
and finally my prayers were answered. It had 4 types of liquor in it: rum, vodka. tequila, and gin. They toss in some coconut cream and pineapple juice and call it a day. It was yummy but the amount of liquid was tiny. So worth it though.

The buffet at the Resort was incredible. If you wanted something it was there for you. Each breakfast had every type of egg and bread imaginable along with bacon, sausage, potatoes, a smoothie bar, pancakes, french toast, multiple pastries, fresh fruit, 8 types of yogurts, a specialty area, and endless mimosas & bloody marys. Oh yes, I recommend an all inclusive resort. This night was Mexican night and we missed it due to a reservation elsewhere. Although I can’t speak for this awesome Mexican taco night I can speak for everything else I ate there which was DELICIOUS!

All in all AU and I had a crazy amazing time.
We literally loved everything we did including going to the Playa Del Carmen city and exploring and taking pictures with a cheap underwater camera we bought in the pool and ocean (can’t wait to share those too).

Paradisus La Perla Playa Del Carmen was a wonderful resort to stay at. The service was impeccable, the beaches & pool were out of a magazine, the food was amazing & tasty always, and the drinks were flowing and full of liquor and not just mixers (the best). I can’t say enough about our honeymoon and how it was everything we needed after the wedding and celebrating the most joyous happy day in our lives.

If you need a resort in Mexico go there!
