FRENCH DIP SANDWICHES (SLOW COOKER)
I ate something that tasted like it came out of a restaurant kitchen, when in fact it came out of mine.
This craving for french dip sandwiches has been following me around like a little puppy for the past few weeks. And today it was fulfilled. I embarked on the journey of making crock pot french dip sandwiches and it was killer.
I thought to myself why not take on this challenge and give it a go. And the best part is that it worked and I was successful. Because lately some of my crock pot adventures haven’t exactly been stellar.
Look at that hunk of meat!!!
I followed a recipe I searched for on pinterest, you can find that original here. However, I changed the recipe, gave it a little ambslovesfood spin [I simply must request that you use mine].
Have you ever had a delicious french dip sandwich with beefy au jus, caramelized onions, crusty bread, and gooey cheese? This is your chance!
My spin on this recipe involves melted gouda cheese & a beer in the au jus [yeah I went there, A WHOLE BEER].
So this is what happened today. AU, my sidekick, and I spent the entire day smelling this beef cooking. It wafted through the apartment from 10 AM this morning to 6 PM this evening. And man, was this tough to deal with. It smelt amaaaaazing all day and we just wanted to eat eat eat, but we had to wait. It was definitely worth the day of waiting. We had to get out of the house and go do something to get away from the smells.
french dip sandwiches
ingredients
beef
2.5-3 pound beef rump
2 packets french onion dip/soup packets
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 12 ounce beer
1 can beef broth
sandwiches
1/2 french loaf
1/2 tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
8 slices gouda
2 slices onion
1 tablespoon butter (brummel & brown)
directions
First heat some olive oil in a medium sized pan, then sear all four sides of the beef. Place in crockpot and cover with onion soup mix and garlic powder. Pour all liquids over top. Cover and cook for 6 hours on low.
After meat is cooked, removed and slice thinly (it will most likely shred instead of slice). Put back in juices inside crockpot, turn to keep warm. Let meat sit in au jus for 30 minutes. As meat is juicing, caramelize onion with butter until soft and slightly brown.
Prepare sandwiches; cut french loaf into two pieces and slice in half. Melt butter and mix with garlic powder, brush on sliced bread. Broil inside side down on tinfoil until crusty. Build sandwich with meat first, then gouda. Broil under grill until cheese is melted. Top with caramelized onions.
Pour a big bowl of that fabulous au jus. And take that hunker of a sammy and dunk-a-roo in your fab beef juices!
[check out my awesome model! ;)]
Just looking at these pictures makes me want another sammy. I really can’t tell you how much these hit the spot.
If you are looking for a french dip sandwich in a restaurant you should try out Newks, no au jus though. BUT still fantastic. Have you heard of that place, hmm its fresh and yum!
Let these sandwiches warm you up, just like they did to me!
