DIY FOCUSED: UPCYCLED COFFEE TINS & WICKER TINS
As everyone can tell, I have not posted anything recently, including diy and recipes! Things have been super busy and I just moved from Greensboro to Winston-Salem.
With all this new excitement to move into a new apartment I began the process of diy. I (and my mom mainly) planned out all the pieces that needed to be stripped, painted, and then sanded as well. I had a list written out with descriptions, and of course it’s very long.
I do have two of the projects under control and finished. I refurbished my coffee and tea tins. They were red and literally said “coffee” and “tea”. And after many attempts they are now blue with white polka dots.
And the second project is my wicker chairs (originally belonging to my parents) that my mom has so graciously repainted a gorgeous grey.
So here are the deets on the diy’s….
Coffee/Tea Tins:
As I mentioned they were originally red and painted with the wording in black. I made the decision that these will not go with the new apartment colors or theme. My first idea was to spray paint them white then polka dot them with green dots (using the back of an eraser). I quickly found out that I am not good at spray painting, I am still learning and then I messed them up. So here’s the list in order of what was done to these tins to receive fruition!
1. Spray painted white (like 3 coats to cover the dark red)
2. The paint started running because I didn’t let it dry between coats so it was then sanded in areas
3. After sanding another 2 coats of white spray paint were applied
4. The white looked weird and chunky so instead I bought round foam stickers and stuck them on the tins
5. I then spray painted the tins a beautiful teal over the stickers
6. After drying and removing them the agent I used to stick them with (called prestick) made small circular lines of paint surrounding each, ugh
7. Next I took the felt foam stickers and painted the tops white and then stamped them on top of the circles that were spray painted with the stickers
8. This was done messily and very roughly to coincide with the look of the paint
And then after ALL those steps I was finally happy with the outcome. They are very cute.
Wicker Chairs:
These chairs are for my dining table, and my mom had a much easier time, she is the diy queen. So she hand painted two coats and then she was finished and of course they look fab.

after:
I forgot to mention what happened as I was working on painting my kitchen shelves (another diy post in the future). After the spray painting of the tins I accidentally stepped onto the wet tarp covered in teal (to my defense the tarp is blue and so was the paint). So then I quickly jumped onto the newspaper to wipe it off. And instead the paper ripped and then of course stuck to my feet. Needless to say they are still blue with newspaper on them, 2 days later.
They don’t call me Boom for no reason…
