DIXIE CLASSIC FAIR, WINSTON SALEM
AU and I attended the Dixie Classic Fair last weekend in Winston Salem (in the rain)!
It was awesome, it meaning the food, and I am here
to tell you what to get and where to find the right/best food.
We had a plan to already get the fried snickers candy bar (for AU) and the red velvet funnel cake
with the huge scoop of cream cheese icing in the middle (for me) before we even got there.
Those were MUSTS!
Luckily it only sprinkled while we were there and we were very strategic about
finding the best spots and sharing one of everything so we could taste more goodies.
First up, some greek food.
Lamb Gyro
Garnished with lettuce, tzatziki and tomatoes. The pita was so extremely soft and we shared one.
I personally loved that there was plenty of tzatziki (I hate when there is not enough).
The meat was tender and so juicy and it was perfect as our first course.
We found this at the Greek place that is all over the Fair with the bright blue awning!
Next was something we had seen everywhere but actually never tried.
Krispy Kreme Burger
Now this was a foodie adventure for sure! The donut was of course super sweet and sticky.
We topped it with cheddar cheese, bacon duh!, and lots of ketchup.
This was not nearly as bad as we thought it would be and
although I wouldn’t order it EVERY time I wanted a burger, it was good.
There is only one place with the Krispy Kreme Burgers so you can’t miss it!
We also sneaked in some crinkle fries with malt vinegar (not pictured). And then it was time for dessert.
AU finally got his deep fried candy bar.
Deep Fried Snickers Candy Bar
This was basically all his as I don’t like snickers candy bars. But needless to say he was in heaven.
The best place we scouted out was actually connected to the Krispy Kreme burger spot!
They had the most authentic deep fried candy bars (is that even a thing?).
Churros were catching my eye every time we made a loop and this decision was the best one made that day.
Chocolate stuffed Churros with Ice Cream and Whipped Cream
These were incredibly delicious, HUGE, cripsy and warm. And the ice cream was so creamy and perfect.
Can we go back to the fair just for this?!?!
This place was the only one selling churros and they were also
selling arepas! Definitely recommend you stopping by there.
At this point I was ready to call it a day but we hadn’t tried the funnel cake yet.
We first had this exact one last year when it was the only red velvet funnel cake
offered. However, this year they were everywhere! It took us the whole time we
were at the fair to find the same place as last year and it was so worth it.
Red Velvet Funnel Cake with scooped Cream Cheese Icing
The secret here is that the best place has the huge scoop of
icing instead of it being drizzled all over. Watch out for that!
This place had a red Funnel Cake sign and black/white checkers on the front.
AU and I walked out of the fair ready to lay on the couch, honestly.
The food was so delish and we had the best day. No rides for us, just food!
Hope you get to check out the Dixie Classic Fair this year and eat some of this yummy food.
Let me know what you end up munching on, I would love to hear suggestions!
Much love,
