CRISPY BAKED SWEET POTATO FRIES
We’re always looking for healthier side options so when we found these Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries we were SUPER excited to try them out.
Sweet potatoes are so much better for you then normal potatoes and they’ve got such a tasty unique flavor!
But these Crispy Seasoned Baked Fries still have a place in our hearts.
These Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries are obviously baked but they actually become crispy without needing to be fried.
The secret is tossing them in cornstarch instead of flour. This provides separation from each other but when it’s mixed with added olive oil they become crispy once cooked.
And when we say crispy we mean CRISPY!
Spices and shredded parmesan are also tossed with the thinly cut sweet potato fries before baking which just adds to the flavor overall.
And the last secret is cutting the sweet potatoes very thinly. Each slice is cut about 1/4” in each direction. This allows for the sweet potato to cook first on the inside fully and then on the outside when you start seeing some browning.
These Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries need to cook about 35-40 minutes for perfection as well as get flipped twice.
This insures even cooking and browning throughout.
Finishing touch for this recipe is the unexpected sweet Thai chili sour cream sauce. AKA these fries are restaurant quality.

Ingredients
- FRIES:
- 1.5 LBS SWEET POTATOES, 1 BIG/1 SMALL
- 1 TABLESPOON OLIVE OIL
- 1/4 CUP PARMESAN, SHREDDED OR GRATED FINELY
- 1 TABLESPOON CORNSTARCH
- 1/2 TEASPOON GARLIC POWDER
- 1/8 TEASPOON CUMIN
- 1/2 TEASPOON DRIED BASIL
- S&P TO TASTE
- SWEET THAI CHILI SOUR CREAM:
- 1/8 CUP SOUR CREAM, LIGHT
- 1/4 TEASPOON DIJON MUSTARD
- 2 TABLESPOONS SWEET THAI CHILI SAUCE
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 425 DEGREES
- COVER 2 BAKING SHEETS WITH PARCHMENT PAPER
- WASH AND PEEL POTATOES
- CUT POTATOES IN HALF LENGTHWISE, THEN INTO 1/4” SLICES AND THEN INTO 1/4” STICKS
- TOSS CUT POTATOES WITH CORNSTARCH, SPICES, S&P
- COVER WITH OLIVE OIL AND TOSS UNTIL ALL ARE COVERED WITH OLIVE OIL EVENLY
- LAY FLAT AND SPREAD OUT ON BAKING SHEETS (THIS IS IMPORTANT!)
- BAKE FOR 15 MINUTES, FLIP GENTLY AND ROTATE BAKING SHEETS
- BAKE FOR ANOTHER 15 MINUTES, FLIP GENTLY
- BAKING FOR THE LAST 5 MINUTES UNTIL BROWN
- BROIL 1-2 MINUTES FOR EXTRA CRISPY-NESS, WATCH THEY DON’T BURN
- WHILE SWEET POTATO FRIES ARE BAKING, COMBINE THREE SAUCE INGREDIENTS WITH A WHISK, SET ASIDE
- SERVE FRIES HOT SPRINKLED WITH EXTRA PARMESAN AND WITH SAUCE ON THE SIDE
