CANADIAN BACON ASPARAGUS PASTA
Here it is everyone… The final asparagus recipe: Canadian bacon asparagus pasta! With my Alfredo sauce.
I had thought of the possibility of getting tired of asparagus three nights in a row. BUT I used them differently each time combined with different flavors so I actually enjoyed each meal.
The reason I chose Canadian bacon for the meat of this pasta was because everyone has either made or bought or eaten a chicken asparagus pasta, that is only if you like asparagus! However, I didn’t want to make a regular chicken pasta or bacon as it was recommended so I chose Canadian bacon instead! What a great choice it was!
The great thing about Canadian bacon is that it’s already cooked and you just have to sautée it. And then make it more yummy.
ingredients (feeds 4):
one box of whole wheat rotini
one package Canadian bacon, sliced thinly
half a brick of 1/3 less fat cream cheese
two cups skim milk
half cup Parmesan cheese
one package asparagus, washed
one teaspoon chopped garlic
half a stick of butter
salt & pepper
I love this sauce, I really do. I put the butter, Parmesan, milk, cream cheese into a small pan and cook it on low heat. This is extremely important as I have stated before. If you cook the sauce too high and it boils, the oil with separate from the “cream” base. It looks disgusting and will not satisfy your appetite. So please make sure not to overheat the Alfredo.
I start the sauce, the cooking of the Canadian bacon, and boiling the water all at the same time. This way everything will be prepared and ready at the same time. Cut the Canadian bacon and heat on medium heat. Add all alfredo ingredients to the small pot and set on low heat, start at 2 or 3 and turn to low after a few minutes. Make sure to constantly mix the sauce. keep stirring and smooshing cream cheese. this will help it melt and mix with the cheese. Cut the asparagus into three pieces per stem. Boil the water and add pasta.
While pasta is boiling remove Canadian bacon and add to the same pan the asparagus and garlic. Cook together stirring occasionally until pasta is cooked. When the pasta is finished cooking and tender, drain and mix in with the asparagus and bacon. Add the sauce and toss together.
Top with pepper and serve!
