BLT’S
BLT’S are the BEST.
Well, bacon is better but I’m pretty sure there is no one out there who could resist a BLT. Maybe the toppings can get a little fuzzy and it just becomes a BLM (bacon, lettuce, mayonnaise), what I used to call it before I started adding the T back in.
But you get my point. This my copycat version of the Jersey Mikes BLT.
The best place to grab a quick BLT, in my opinion is at Jersey Mikes. Now I know we all have our opinions on these little sandwich shops but hey we’re entitled to them.
Let me just share mine with you.
I do not like to even walk into Subway. I don’t want Jimmy Johns. I really enjoy Which Wich. But ‘ll take Jersey Mikes as my first choice.
So there’s that…
What’s really important to me is the bread. Man I love bread. I think we’ve talked about that before. But this bread is from Jersey Mikes and it is whole wheat. In that picture it is full whole wheat, yes I know. And it is soft and delicious.
And that GIANT loaf right there cost me all of $1.50. What a steal.
I like BLT’s so much I decided it was time to make them at home. I think it could be my favorite sandwich.
Purchase the giant loaf of whole wheat: check.
Purchase thinly sliced provolone from the deli: check.
Fry a massive amount of bacon: check.
Thinly slice lettuce to look almost shredded: check.
Slice ripe tomatoes: check
Lather the top half in mayonnaise: check.
Finish it off Mike’s Way: check.
Stuff into my face: of course.
What is Mike’s Way you ask if you don’t already know.
Mike’s Way as defined by google: Onions, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Wine Vinegar, Olive Oil, and Spices
Mike’s way defined by me: only the best way to enjoy a sandwich BUT NO ONIONS.
- 1 giant whole wheat Jersey Mikes sub
- thinly sliced provolone
- romaine lettuce
- tomato
- mayonnaise
- 10 pieces of bacon
- red wine vinegar
- olive oil
- oregano
- S&P
- First fry your bacon until crispy, remove extra grease. Slice the sub in half lengthwise.
- Chop/slice romaine into thin slices, to do so work with the lettuce pieces rolled up. Start to slice thinly at a diagonal until it reveals shredded lettuce. Slice tomatoes.
- Start layering sandwich. Start with provolone slices, then bacon, top with lettuce, sliced tomatoes. Smear the top half with mayonnaise. Sprinkle red wine vinegar and olive oil over the top half. Season with oregano and S&P.
- Top off the sandwich with the top half and slice into 4 pieces.
I think these are the best sandwiches for fall, especially when the bacon is still a little warm from frying.
