A WEDDING IN ATHENS
This past weekend I attended a beautiful wedding in Athens, Georgia. I attended with the ever handsome AU and my stunning co-worker Katelyn. We went to celebrate the marriage of now Rachel and Frank Sikora.
Athens was cool. The weather wasn’t too hot, the food was delicious, and the little college town was quiet at first until everyone woke up at 1 PM.
When we first arrived we felt like no one was even there. Now we think they were just sleeping.
First we did a little shopping, naturally.
Then walked around and found a good looking pizza joint, The Transmetropolitan.
The menu was full of pizzas & calzones with tasty looking burgers as well.
We first settled on Blue Fries: crispy french fries covered in gorgonzola cheese and a side of blue cheese dressing. The fries were perfectly crunchy and HOT. The gorgonzola had melted onto the fries creating a gooey masterpiece as Katelyn and I dunked ours in the dressing on the side. It was a great starter before our pizza came.
We then dove into a proscuitto pizza with plenty of proscuitto to share. The only problem was it came out without proscuitto on the half we ordered with pineapple. The outcome: half crispy baked proscuitto for AU’s half and fresh proscuitto for Katelyn and my half with pineapple. Still delicious.
After filling our tummies with beers and greasy food we decided more beers were a good idea. We found the coolest brewery, Creature Comforts.
One entire wall of this huge brewery was all windows with a huge rollup door. There was plenty of light and two separate bars. One of my favorite parts about it was the 2 samples and a glass tactic. We were each given bracelets to wear with little tabs that said “beer”. They were obviously ripped off with each sample we tried. I tried the famous Athena beer and a lemon drop variation called Arcadiana. Both delish, both consumed quickly so we could get wedding ready!
We attended the wedding at The Foundry/The Melting Point/The Graduate. A hotel, venue, stage set up all in one. It was a beautiful day and Rachel and Frank glowed with happiness as they said their vows.
The party afterwards was so much fun as we danced the night away to the band The Grapevine. 9 entertainers and also musicians. Some of them even danced with Katelyn! It was a fantastic party and we loved sharing the moments with Rachel and Frank and their friends and families.
Bride & Groom:
To end the trip we stopped in a little recommended brunch place, The Last Resort.
We were able to walk to the restaurant from our hotel in a little sprinkle of rain.
The decor was eccentric and welcoming with low lighting. We were thankful for that after a night out partying and checking out a local bar, Little Kings Shuffle Club.
The outer wall had a super colorful painting inviting everyone in!
Katelyn and I both ordered a Spinach & Artichoke entree with poached eggs, with creamy sauce on top of challah french toast (savory of course). It was so rich and delightful. Maybe a little too much considering we thought we were ordering healthy vegetables.
AU ordered a shredded pork plate topped with a fried egg over hash. All was fantastic and the coffee was one of my favorite things.
The “healthy” vegetable poached egg entree covered with feta & a fresh tomato sauce:
Athens was definitely a fun town with lots of little things to do. It’s fun to visit a walking town.
I’d recommend you make a trip!
