KOREAN BEEF BOWL

Jump to recipe

AU loves Asian food, I do too but not as much as he does. I always try to incorporate Asian influence into our meals every few weeks or so to keep him happy. That would be influence in my or our cooking at home.

Unfortunately we can’t afford to always go to the Japanese Steak houses we love and drool about.

I stumbled across this recipe on Damn Delicious weeks ago and I had it in the back of mind just waiting for a chance to make it.

I’m going to have to say it was well worth the wait.

This was one of the best Asian dishes I have made at home by farrrrr.

It was literally mouth watering as we were eating it. There is an amazing amount of spiciness from the red pepper flakes (it catches your tongue but it’s not too spicy) and the salty sweet combination was perfect.

Little bit of salty and not too much sweet, this comes from the soy sauce & sesame oil paired with brown sugar.

I love dark brown sugar. AU caught me eating it by itself the other night… Oops.

I chose to brighten this dish with some fresh slightly roasted broccoli. Every time I think Asian food with noodles or rice I think of broccoli as my healthy pairing. It is easy and it is fast. I always try to add some healthy option to my meals even though they don’t make it onto AU’s plate… That is a whole ‘nother story.

Any veggie would go great with this dish, remember it is just beef so try to pair vegetables that work well with that. A few off the top of my mind would be red peppers, zucchini, sweet onion, and of course what I used broccoli.

I used chives instead of green onions in my version, considering the fact I didn’t want to buy green onions for one dish. I think it was a perfect substitute.

This korean beef bowl was magic in the kitchen. It was so easy to prepare and it came together in a flash. Cooking my brown rice took longer than cooking the beef!

It is a fabulous recipe for new cooks or even a night where you need dinner on the table fast.

The ground beef is also a cheaper version for this beef bowl, normally sliced steak is used. I enjoyed the ground beef just as much and I scarfed it down with my chopsticks.

Does anyone else think you can’t have Asian food/Indian food/rice without chopsticks or is it just me?
